Here at Gresham Smile Designs, your Gresham Cosmetic dentist, we take pride in a beautiful smile. Caring for your teeth is essential to an overall healthy lifestyle. Many people think brushing and flossing is enough. But we always educate patients that although prevention is key, there is more you can do to ensure your dental visits are smooth and cavity free.
Ingredients are key
Many people will read ingredients of their foods, but most don’t think about reading the ingredient of their oral health care products. We urge patients to take a proactive role by looking at the foods they eat but also at the oral health care packages. Read labels and ingredients on your mouthwash and toothpaste packages.
When you want a fresh minty breath, avoid chemicals and ingredients that could cause dry mouth such as alcohol. Some ingredients could cause even more damage to your smile. Choose an all-natural toothpaste for a full benefit and a lasting healthy smile.
Invest in a toothbrush
Investing in an electronic toothbrush and spending more can make a difference in your health. If you can, spring for an electronic toothbrush, it is one of the best ways to fight off cavities, mainly because the bristles are designed to brush your teeth on a timer. Most people don’t take enough time to brush their teeth, which can result in cavities and bad breath.
We say floss more, because many of our patients don’t actually floss enough. Sometimes every now and then does not help your oral health. Flossing is a lot like a muscle you have to work it out daily to help it get stronger. Take time to floss every day and you will feel better and healthier in the long run.
No matter how much you floss and brush your teeth visiting your dentist for regular cleanings is key for long term oral health success. If you have questions about your oral health, be open and honest with your dentist. We are here to help and our ultimate goal is your health.
